Professor James Cooper Does The Taiwan Sessions:

Professor James Cooper, Director of Proyecto ACCESO and International Legal Studies at California Western School of Law, spent the third week of November in Taiwan, presenting seven lectures in seven days – six at universities and one at a leading Taiwanese think tank. At the Chen-Li Foundation of Taipei, Professor Cooper gave a presentation to former cabinet members and policy advisors of the Chen Administration (2000-2008) on “International Trade Relations Among Taiwan, People’s Republic of China and the United States and Its Legal and Political Implications”.

He lectured on “Intellectual Property Rights and Globalization: The Challenge of Piracy” at Asia University Law School, Tong-Hai University Law School and National Taichung Poly-Technical College all in Taichung City as well as Ta-Tong University and Fu-Jen Catholic University Law School in Taipei. He also lectured on “Trends in Human Rights Law” at National Taipei University Law School.

California Western School of Law alumnus Michael Tsai, Esq., a former member of Taiwan’s National Assembly and former Minister of National Defense, organized the lecture series with colleagues from around Taiwan.

Minister Tsai served as moderator, translator, and at times, bodyguard, for Professor Cooper. Audiences, some numbering over 250 members, enjoyed the lecture stylings of ACCESO’s director: “Professor Cooper really understands the Taiwanese legal culture when it comes to Intellectual Property rights.

And he is great with chopsticks,” confirmed translator Rossanna Chen, a law student at the Fu-Jen Catholic University Law School.
