LA FLAMA AND EL LLANERO
FACILITATE AN INTERCULTURAL NEGOCIATION
WITH THE AYMARA PEOPLE

Following the inauguration of the Reform in Arica, Chile with President Ricardo Lagos on Monday December 16, 2002, the ACCESO Indigena project team left the "Epicentro Uno" to undertake an Inter-Cultural Negotiation workshop with members of the Aymara community in the First Region.

This training seminar was coordinated by Rodrigo Lillo of the Catholic University of Temuco. El Llanero, as he is affectionately called in ACCESOlandia, worked with Indigenous Project Director Lilia Velásquez to develop a great program. Building on its experiences with the Mapuche people in the Ninth Region, the ACCESO team continued its program of training indigenous leaders on the positive aspects of the legal reform process in Chile.

Rodrigo has worked with La Flama de la Justicia and GloboGuy in 2001 facilitating dialogues with Mapuche leaders for some of ACCESO’s early work in the field of indigenous problem-solving and the team plans to continue its work with other first nations throughout the Hemisphere.
