The ACCESO team works with all the sectors in the administration of justice. We are judges, prosecutors, public defenders, legal educators, and journalists. We are building new systems for conflict resolution that are fair, efficient and transparent.

SHARING LEGAL TECHNOLOGIES IN THE AMERICAS

Conference held in San Diego, California



On August 14th 2003, California Western School of Law hosted a celebration of the many contributions judges, practicing lawyers and legal academicians have made in improving justice systems in the Americas.

Speakers included: Ezekiel Cortez, a member of the San Diego Bar who has trained Chilean public defenders, judges, and prosecutors; Hon. Irma Gonzalez, of the U.S. District Court, who has traveled through Ecuador educating fellow judges about problem-solving mechanisms and the administration of justice; Carlos Gonzales, a Peruvian-born reporter and producer for Univision, who has led ACCESO Capacitación courses in Mexico and Chile. Lilia Velasquez, a human rights lawyer who teaches immigration law at California Western, who has led studies into indigenous problem-solving mechanisms and taught ACCESO courses with U.S. Department of State sponsorship throughout the region. Dean Steven Smith will close the event and comment on his recent trip to Chile and visit with members of the Supreme Court. Steven R. Smith, Dean of California Western School of Law, and James Cooper, Director of ACCESO, also spoke.
