ACCESO Director’s Message – 2006

Dear Friends:

What a year!  2005 was filled with wonderful events for ACCESO as we expanded our product line and our programs throughout Latin America.

Please come in here and have a look at our current programs and events.

Intellectual Property Week in Chile
ACCESO Derechos Intelectuales launched its first national strategy for the enforcement of intellectual property rights. With a training at the Public Ministry, attended by Attorney-General Guillermo Piedrabuena, Chileans top economic crimes prosecutors joined with law enforcement officials from the Customs, Tax and Police services. With new training from experts in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice, the three was an interchange of information, strategy, and investigation techniques.

Representatives from the software, book publishing, recording, and motion picture industries were also invited to national strategy meetings and debates with Chilean artists and the artists rights associations.

A 50 second public service announcement was produced for television, cinema and web-based media. A middle school curriculum, devoted to teaching young people about intellectual property rights, was also launched for use in after-school, school, and community center settings.

Finally, an ACCESO Sessions concert in support of Intellectual Property Week took place in Bella Vista at the Sociedad Chilena de Derechos de Autor.

ACCESO Director James Cooper spoke on national radio (Radio Chilena, Radio, Bio Bio and Radio del Mundo) and the program was featured in La Nacion, La Tercera and a number of other Chilean media outlets. "It was exhausting reading this, let alone doing this,"exclaimed Cooper.

"Watch for Intellectual Property Week in Montevideo, Uruguay in the coming months and a tour for January 2005," smiles ACCESO’s director.
