ACCESO Director’s Message – 2006

Dear Friends:

What a year!  2005 was filled with wonderful events for ACCESO as we expanded our product line and our programs throughout Latin America.

Please come in here and have a look at our current programs and events.

Judicial exchange program in Buenos Aires

On April 4 and 5, 2005, ACCESO partnered with the Federal Magistrate Judges Association of the United States, the United States Embassy in Argentina, and Fundacion Libra of Argentina to facilitate a one and a half day judicial exchange program in Buenos Aires.

On April 4, Judge Louisa Porter of the U.S. District Court in Southern California and ten of her colleagues from the federal Bench around the United States, joined with Argentine Judges Helen Highton-Nolasco (the first female judge on the Argentine Supreme Court) and Gladys Stella Alvarez for a roundtable discussion at the Argentine Supreme Court.

On April 5th, a six-hour program on mediation and judicial reform was held at the Argentine Magistrates Association in the Tribunales sector of Buenos Aires.

In addition, there was a general discussion about judicial independence, something that must be strengthened in both countries if a true separation of powers is to continue.

Later that day, the group met with U.S. Ambassador to Argentina, Lino Gutierrez, for a candid discussion about judicial reform and the future of the Free Trade of the Americas.
