ACCESO is promoting the
rule of law throughout the Americas.
The ACCESO team works with all the sectors in the administration
of justice. We are judges, prosecutors, public defenders,
legal educators, and journalists. We are building new
systems for conflict resolution that are fair, efficient
and transparent.
By training legal innovators, together we are srengthening

ACCESO holds its conference program in January 2005:
"The Rule of Law at the Border"
|
On
January 21, 2005, law enforcement officials from the Department of
Homeland Security (Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement),
members of the Mexican foreign service, the former U.S. Ambassador
to Mexico, a property developer who works on both sides of the border,
a border activist and educator, and a federal judge all joined together
for "The Rule of Law at the Border" - a conference examining
legal issues at the U.S.-Mexico frontier.
The
speakers included Ambassador Jeffrey Davidow, Assistant Chief of the
Border Patrol David Hoffman (San Diego Sector), Jennifer Silliman,
Assistant Special Agent in Charge for Immigration and Customs Enforcement,
Javier Diaz of the Mexican Consul General's office, property developer
Sam Marasco, border activist and film-maker Sergio de la Torre, and
Hon. James Stiven. California Western School of Law Assistant Dean
James Cooper, who also directs Proyecto ACCESO, moderated the event
for the 100-plus people assembled in California Western's New Lecture
Hall.
"It
is great to have so many voices and so many perspectives represented
at this event," said Cooper, an ex-patriot of Canada, "I
just wish there were more people from the Great White North."
With ACCESO, the event was co-sponsored by the International Law Society,
La Raza Law Students Association, and the International Legal Studies
Program at California Western School of Law. ACCESO alumni Alor Calderon,
Elizabeth Pietanza and even The Flame of Justice Lilia Velasquez made
an appearance!
