The ACCESO team works with all the sectors in the administration of justice. We are judges, prosecutors, public defenders, legal educators, and journalists. We are building new systems for conflict resolution that are fair, efficient and transparent.

What a year!  2005 was filled with wonderful events for ACCESO as we expanded our product line and our programs throughout Latin America.

INTERCULTURAL NEGOTIATION


Globalization affects us all - whether we are lawyers in the United States or in Latin America or factory owners, workers, and trade unionists. Globalization requires an understanding of other cultures, particularly their rules and their negotiation styles. If we are to have a truly integrated economy, there is a need for legal cultures to develop common methodologies for problem-solving. We must appreciate and respect the practices and social values of other groups with whom we live and work. Intercultural negotiation skills are critical for the creative problem solver.

ACCESO Capacitación offers judges, lawyers and law students the opportunity to work more successfully across cultures. With our signature learning by doing methodology - which includes role-playing simulations - we empower our participants with these must-have skills. This pedogogical approach is coupled with lectures, case studies and readings as well as discussion groups for workshops of longer duration.

In short, the Intercultural Negotiation workshop is quite engaging. Acting on stereotypical roles assumed from a case study, teams of negotiators representing their international clients work toward reaching agreement. As participants confront counterparts with their own cultural distinctions and biases, conflicts inevitably arise and are resolved. Whether you are a corporate lawyer working with companies extracting natural resources in the rainforest or a public defender representing your client in a marginalized community, intercultural negotiation is an important skill to be successful.
