ACCESO Capacitacion Debuts in Ecuador

From all over Ecuador, the participants included defense attorneys from the prison system, social services, religious institutions, non-profit and citizen advocacy groups. These lawyers shared one thing in common: a driving need to provide access to justice for the poor and the marginalized.

ACCESO Trainers Michael Mandig of Tucson, Airzona joined with Chilean Superdefensores Claudio Pavlic and Carmen Gloria Ormeño to train in ACCESO´s new Abogacia Oral (Avanzada). Local hosts inluded; Fundacion Fabian Ponce, Ponticifia Universidad Catloica de Ecuador, Fundacion Esquel, y la Embajada de los Estados Unidos en Ecuador.

The participants learned critical skills including how to build a theory of the case and how to cross-examine expert witnesses. With thesenew tools, a new generation of lawyers commitment to public defense work can function more professionally and successfully in the new oral trial system now in place in Eucador.
