El Llanero Stays Along His Path

Rodrigo Lillo, an ACCESO Trainer in cross-cultural negotiation, has been in the media again. An expert in indigenous law and a soughtafter consultant for his knowledge of Mapuche practices (usos y custombres known as "cosmovision"), Rodrigo comes from a family known for its love of the rule of law.

El Llanero was a private lawyer representing one of the Mapuche leaders tried in March 2003 at the Caso Mapuche in Angol. He won the first case. The second trial, held in August of last year, saw the conviction of his client. "We are still working toward a more just result," says Rodrigo. He can often be found visiting Mapuche rukas, traditional collective dwellings, in the Ninth Region, providing legal advice.

Rodrigo is also a part-time professor the Universidad Catolica de Temuco where he teaches indigenous law. He speaks regularly at international conferences and is featured in the media about the Mapuches and their quest for justice.
